THEATRE

Susan is most known for her original performance work, in which she blurs the boundaries of music, theatre, comedy, and performance art to create what she calls 'performance memoir.'  In 2011, she introduced her full-length rock and roll play Girl/Group: A Daughter’s Tale, about her mother's experiences as a member of an all-girl doo-wop group in the late 1950s. Premiering at the world renowned (and personally beloved) La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club in New York, Girl/Group has since been presented at the Landmark Loew's Jersey and at spaces in and around New York City.  Susan is thrilled to announce that there will be a screen adaptation of Girl/Group, which is currently in development.

She is also writing another performance memoir called 86 Wallis Avenueabout a century of life in the Jersey City apartment building where she and so many generations before her were raised, and the intersection of memory and Alzheimer's disease.

Her other acclaimed original music-theatre pieces include Ladylike, Movie Night, Becoming Fantastic, Every Desire Is a Veiled Prayer and Unexpected Places, which were performed by Susan with a live band and also featured some of her own musical compositions.

As an actor, Susan has worked in the New York theatre since having graduated from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts in 1989.  She has appeared in productions ranging from traditional musical theatre to literary adaptations, from sketch comedy to experimental performance and dance. She has also performed at the Whitney Museum in Manhattan, on the Mainstage of the Williamstown Theatre Festival in Williamstown, MA, at Time/Space Limited Warehouse in Hudson, NY, with the Liberty State Opera in Jersey City, NJ, and at the Centro per la Sperimentazione e Ricerca Teatrale in Pontedera, Italy.  As a theatre performer, she has been blessed to work with artists such as Meredith Monk, Christopher Reeve, Warren Leight, Joan MacIntosh, Marco Calvani, Jodie Markell, Jayne Atkinson, Eureka, Nicky Paraiso, Mary Fulham, and Heidi Latsky, among others. She is a proud Actors' Equity member.
